Look for the positive in everything you do

I have been advising my life coaching clients for years to “Look for the positive in everything you do.”

When people focus on the negative aspects of their lives, it creates more unhappiness. Looking for the positive in every situation generates thinking patterns that help people develop the skills that they will need to think about reaching a positive outcome.

Studies now prove that even clinically depression patients who undergo cognitive-behavior therapy who develop “future-directed therapy skills demonstrated significant improvement in depression and anxiety and actually achieve positive future experiences.

I recently ready an article that appeared in ScienceDaily in October 2011,Future-Directed Therapy Helps Depression Patients Cultivate Optimistic Outlook that focuses on  Depression Patients seeking professional help.

The basic tenet of the article is that “Future-Directed Therapy helps people shift their attention constructing visions of what they want more of in the future and it helps them develop the skills that they will need to eventually get there.”
