Sleeping is oh so hard to do

I am often in conversations about how hard it is to sleep as we get older. But in today’s stressful times, it seems it is a pervasive issue among us all. I’ve done a lot of reading about sleep deprivation, taking sleeping pills, etc.

I truly believe the best way to fall asleep is to not worry about NOT falling asleep. Essentially be positive when you go through your nightly routine. Don’t say to others “I am a bad sleeper, or “I cant fall asleep at night”, or “I cant stay asleep.” Instead tell yourself you will sleep, and when it doesn’t happen right away, just relax about it. Don’t fret about having to be perky for a special meeting, or late night. Eventually sleep will happen! But it takes time and practice to relax about sleep. So start with one night, then another and another and soon the stress associated with not sleeping will start to wane.
